5 Baits You Must Have In Your Ultralight Bass Fishing Arsenal!
So, you, like myself and many others, get lost in the bombardment of selections in the fishing section. So many choices, so much money, where do I start, what color works best, how do I catch more fish. Trust me, I ask myself the same questions over and over again. This is why I took up ultralight bass fishing. You just catch more fish, period. In this article, I will show you 5 baits that are proven fish catchers, some classics in here!
Up to bat first is our all time favorite, and a true classic, the plastic worm. This bait was concocted up back in 1949 by Nick Creme in his basement. These baits have been putting more fish in livewells longer than most of us have been alive. In most areas you fish, you can get away with a 4incher in either the black/blue (junebug) or green/black flake colors.
On the list next is the Rapala Floating Minnow. Rapala makes a jointed model of this bait, and when reeled slowly on top of the water, it acts like a spook lure. The faster you reel though, makes it dive a little deeper, topping out around 1 foot deep. If the fish are in a feeding mood, this is my go to lure. You can just let this lure sit as well, often called deadsticking. If you know that you are over a fishy area, let the lure die, and sit for 15-30 seconds or so, and give it a couple twitches. This will get their attention. The smaller sizes work best on ultralight rods.
The next one is the classic grub. The good old plastic 2" grub. It doesn't look like much, a little round body with a curly tail, on a jig head. To a fish though, it is exactly what they want. A slow moving, chunk of food. You can fish it deep to shallow, fast or slow. Try burning the tail across the top of the water like a buzzbait in the morning or evenings. I use green pumpkin with a chartreuse tail, or even black. Black jig heads on both.
Booyah's Pond Magic 3/16oz spinnerbait is the next lure you have to have. We all know how important spinnerbaits are in catching bass. You can slow roll them along the bottom, fast enough to get the blades moving. You can also burn it just below the waters surface, these things are guaranteed fish catching lures. The orange/red/yellow color is excellent for dirty water, with the white one with copper blades being great for stained water.
Skirted jigs are known around most bass club circles as big fish catchers. This goes for ultralight bass fishing jigs as well. You get a lot more fish with ultralight techniques, however, jigs still weed out the smaller fish. There is just something about them. Especially fishing in ponds, these are the big fish slayers.

But yet, even as some in those group dominate the others (the NFL dominates all sports in terms of popularity), the NHL has not been able to really keep up with the others.
However, hockey as dropped off the list of major sports. Right now, NASCAR racing is likely more popular with the general public than NHL hockey. Once one of the most important sports in the US, hockey is now seemingly shut out of the top tier looking in.
How did this happen to the NHL? Was it the entire season that was lost to the lockout that did this? No, that wasn't the reason, that lost year to the lockout was actually a symptom of the problem itself. The lockout was held because salaries were getting out of control and many franchises, outside of the most popular ones such as the New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings, simply could not afford to keep paying as much to their players as they were.
As any fan who lives in a city with a NHL franchise knows, declining ticket sales aren't the cause of NHL franchises' slumping revenues; games continue to be well attended and eagerly looked forward to. The reason for the lower revenue has to do with broadcast rights, a significant source of income for the NHL. Hockey is simply less popular as a televised sport than it once was.
While the lockout wasn't in itself the cause of the NHL's problems, it certainly didn't help. When hockey returned to television in the 2005-2006 season, ESPN passed on the broadcast rights for NHL games. OLN (now known as Versus) picked up the broadcast rights - this network has a much smaller reach than ESPN and correspondingly shallower pockets. As a result, the NHL continues to have financial difficulties and many hockey fans are unable to receive NHL games at all, something that does not bode well for the NHL's ability to recapture the attention of sports fans.
There is also the problem that many fans think that hockey is a sport which doesn't lend itself well to the medium of television. Fans prefer to watch hockey games in person; and NHL games are often sold out. However, hockey fans think that some of the speed and the finesse of the sport are lacking in televised games. Sadly, this has led to hockey being harder and harder to watch at all and there are a lot of people who may never know just what they're missing.
While it has slipped from the top four and there are some problems which need to be ironed out to truly convey all of the action and excitement of NHL hockey on TV, if the league can find a new broadcast carrier with a larger market share, it may still be able to return to its former status as one of the most important American sports. The NHL may be down, but it's too early to count it out just yet.

When people conjure up thoughts of ultralight bass fishing during the mid summer heat, they typically return to thinking about the air conditioning, and television. What the hey, it's more comfortable anyways, right? What you don't realize is that you just cost yourself some of the best bass experiences you could have imagined.
One of everybodies favorite ultralight bass fishing styles is using topwater baits. So yeah, name somebody who doesn't love a big blowup, especially on a small lure! When people are talking about the subject, poppers, and buzzbaits are usually the top of the conversation. People have caught more fish with these 2 lures, than with any other topwater baits combined.
The best time to use these baits is either in the morning, or evening, or when the clouds are overhead. This is what I was talking about earlier. People want to use fast moving baits during the summer, which is good, but they don't use them at the right times.
Water temperatures in smaller reservoirs (re: retention ponds) that we like to fish in warm up to temperatures that the fish don't feel comfortable in. They typically won't exert a lot of energy chasing down a bait until the water cools back down.

Grasping the World Series of Poker Payout Structure
To learn more about the World Series of Poker Payout Structure, you have to know where it all began. 1970 to 1977 a marketing genius named Benny Binion promoted his poker tournament as "winner-take-all". World Series of Poker has never been winner-take-all and probably never will. Benny Binion took that concept, made his event a world championship caliber tournament, and the buzz caught on. World Series of Poker prize money was always negotiated by the players.
Before the tournament would start, the players voted on various ways for the pot to be split. Players would resume playing typically using 25% of their previous chips. 75% of the other chips were exchanged for cash at the cage. Players designating distribution of the pots, isn't how it happens today but that's how it started.
A legal investigation ensued, because the winner-take-all tournament idea raised red flags. It raised the flags cause of the fabrication of prize money, and operating procedures were somewhat suspicious. If you have ever heard of the old quiz show, where the game was rigged called "twenty one", the federal broadcasting law wasn't enforced in this case, like it was there.
Popular television network CBS was put in a rather odd position, after it drummed up its own version of the winner-take-all tournament. This tournament was in tennis, and featured tennis stars Jimmy Conners and Rod Laver in the finals. Connors and Laver would play a great final match only split the prize money. With Conners and Laver splitting the spoils, CBS was fined by the FCC and required to issue a public apology.
With federal investigations being conducted, Mr. Binion realized that he had better act quickly and make some changes. Binion quickly disposed of the idea of winner-take-all, and learned that he would have a better following by paying more spots instead of less. So Binion came up with another marketing success, telling the players in his tournament that he was paying the top 5 spots that year.
The top five players that participated in the event in 1978 were paid out. This new payout structure lasted until 1981 when Binion changed it again to the vastly growing field when Binion paid out the top nine players. Paying out nine spots lasted until 1986. With an overwhelming growth in entrants to 141 in 1987, it forced Binion to once again pay out more spots.
Players started pouring in from all over the world, and in the upcoming years would set attendance and payout records. This started with the Chris Moneymaker shocker in 2003, setting a new record for winnings in the WSOP. In 04' Binion paid out 225 spots. He was at it again in 2005 paying out 560 slots, and 873 in 06'.
The WSOP is now shown on ESPN which brings its largest sports viewing population to the poker tournament, making it bigger every year. Its hard to imagine having these kind of fields in the mid 1970's, but where the game has come, and the steps at which it has taken to get there are amazing. As you can see the payout structure has grown monumental over the years, just like the games popularity.

Hull suffered from knee trouble throughout his career and was off the ice more than on it during the WHAs final season of 1979-80. After appearing in a handful of games for the Jets, he was shipped to the Hartford Whalers for future considerations. He would play in a few games for the Whalers before calling it a career. With the exception of an abortive comeback attempt with the New York Rangers in 1981 that was the end of his professional hockey career.
Hull's legacy lived on in flesh and blood with his third son, Brett Hull. The Hulls are the only father/son combination to ever score 50 goals in an NHL season and Brett will follow his father into the Hall of Fame this year.
